At Home Learning In Action
Today the boys followed the routine and never complained. Here are photos so you can get an idea of what some "at home learning" may look like.
First, they got some free time as it takes Mom a while to wake up and have her morning ☕ :) Next, we all sat together and did our Bible lesson. On a normal school day, this would not happen because we usually do not wake up early enough to make it a priority. We normally would listen to worship music on the way to school and sometimes a Christian podcast for kids. They actually love the podcast and their Christian music, but this just isn't the same as reading the word of God and letting it seep into the corners of your little world.
We skipped our exercise and recess stations as we had somewhere to go. But when we returned, they played outside in the sprinkler, did some water balloons, and ran some laps while momma cooked dinner. After dinner they read books. Then I read to them once more while they were tucked in bed. We had a great day! Tomorrow may look different but it is all okay. We are taking it one day at a time, not making it too stressful, but fun and flexible. I think as long as we keep things in perspective, it will all turn out lovely. I want my kids to have a lifetime love of learning, to be kind, to love Jesus, and have respect for themselves and others. I want them to have a strong work ethic and a strong sense of values. Sometimes we forget what our family values are because of all the distractions a busy, fast-paced life can throw at us. Live in this moment and find the teachable moments in this crazy situation we are in- how to be flexible, how to handle fear, how to be independent learners, how to use your creativity and imagination, and how to care for others. The world is your classroom! Learning is not just about books and teachers. Explore and educate yourself out in the real world! You will have a blast.

After Bible lessons we continued at the table with our school packets. Lucky for them their Mom is a teacher and will always have EXTRA work for them to do other than the provided packet.
They briefly did alone play on the iPad and then they cleaned. They cleaned the bathroom mirrors, made beds, and cleaned all the rugs by shaking them out on our back porch. While they did these two stations, I was able to eat lunch by myself and get lunch ready for them. Then while they ate, I got their online lessons set up for them and my white board ready to teach them something new.
Braylon and I went over area and perimeter while Wyatt got on Scholastic. He followed along with Day 1 on the website which had read alouds on Spiders and a video he could watch that went along with the theme. He really enjoyed it and was able to do it all on his own. Once I finished the lesson with Braylon, he did a few practice problems. Then him and Wyatt switched. I worked on 3D shapes with Wyatt while Braylon followed scholastic for grades 3-5. He really enjoyed his reading assignments on Scholastic also. It was all about sloths, which he loves. Here is a link if you decide to do this at home too. I highly recommend it! https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome/grades-1-2.html
